My little car project

2002 Subaru Impreza WRX

Modification List

Latest update:  As of January 9, 2005 I've been using the alternative fuel E85.  Car runs perfect, only thing bad so far is in MD it cost slightly more then premium and I get less MPG.  From what I hear from others E85 is costing them about $.50 less in there states.  Right now it's something I'm playing with and is an easy boost in HP since it's 105 octane.  All I had to do was add about 30% more fuel flow to the engine.  That would make my gas mileage drop about 30% I would guess.

  • Subaru STI RA engine - Purchased on NASIOC imported from Japan with only 3500 miles on it (can't be proven, but what I was guaranteed).  So far I added 25,000 hard miles and still perfect.
  • Subaru STI RA hardened gear set- imported from Vivid Racing, broke 3rd gear on April 3, 2004.  Merging into traffic in third, saw opening, floored it, as soon as turbo kicked in with 18psi@4,500rpm's 3rd gear broke into many many pieces.
  • K&N air filter
  • TurboXS UTEC piggy back computer - Lets me program every thing in my cars ECU
  • TurboXS TMI - Much larger than stock intercooler to cool air for a claimed 30HP increase.
  • Greddy Oil Catch Can. - Stops oil coming from PVC valve from entering the intake.
  • Coolingmist Dual Stage water/alcohol  injection - This gives your engine a huge boost of power, it's like using 110 octane gas.
  • Ultimate-Racing Externally Gated Up-Pipe for TiAL 38mm - Gives the turbo more help keeping boost. This thing is so loud when it kicks in it makes my ears ring.
  • TiAL 38mm wastegate - Vents the exhaust gasses around the turbo to maintain a certain boost level.
  • M2 Turboback Exhaust - 3" Dual Tip Stainless Steel Turbo Back Exhaust System
  • FP18g Turbo - Hold on baby, this thing rocks.  Decided against a larger turbo, don't want to break car too quick.  Holds boost at 18psi all day long, right up to redline.  I just rebuilt it myself with a kit from Deadbolt, very easy to do.  I would recommend you buy an extremely heavy duty snap ring removal tool before the rebuild.
  • HKS SSQV Blowoff Valve - Releases that built up pressure between shifts with a loud whistle.
  • Blitz Turbo Timer - Keeps car running when key is removed for a time set by the timer to cool down the turbo after a hard run.
  • Autometer Boost Gauge - Gauge that displays the boost in intake
  • Autometer Oil Pressure Gauge
  • Autometer EGT gauge
  • Autometer Fuel Pressure Gauge
  • Autometer Volt Gauge
  • Gauge mount - Factory gauge mount holding my Boost gauge and Boost Controller.
  • Bosh Platinum plugs - One step colder to reduce detonation at high boost levels.
  • Bazooka Tube - Self powered subwoofer so you can feel the bass.
  • Frame mounted tow hitch - Subaru dealer item,  Definably not a performance modification but I need to pull the boat around somehow.
  • EXEDY Twin Plate Racing Clutch - Racing clutch has two clutch plates and pressure plate, holds serious HP.
  • 800cc fuel injectors - I modified my stock injectors by cutting off the cap.  The results are free and work perfect.   Tested by Witchhunter Performance.
  • Walbro 255 lph Fuel Pump - The turners said I needed it.
  • SSR Competition 17" Wheels -  These are very light weight and look awesome on my car.
  • Liberal Front lip & side skirts - Was all go and no show, now it's both.
  • Nitrous Oxide - ZEX wet n2o kit.  I purchased extra jets for a 40HP shot instead of supplied 55,65,75 with kit.  I really only want it to spool turbo quicker, and it does that perfectly.  Without n2o I get full spool at 4500rpms, with n2o I think full spool comes on at 2500rpms.  Can't tell because my head is planted to the head rest and everything gets blurry. LOL  According it my Beltronics FX2 Performance meter this 40 jet gives me an increase of 65 HP at the wheels for a total of 447 whp.  (Road Dyno, how accurate is it?)
  • Front Mount Intercooler - TurboXS FMIC all aluminum and looks great.
  • Beltronics BelVector FX2 Performance Timer Accelerometers - Gives me my 0-60, 1/4mile and so on.  I haven't done a 1/4mile test yet, too scared on public roads to go that fast and get a ticket.  So far I got a 0-60mph time of 3.75 seconds using n2o, 3.9 without.  Device said I have 382 WHP and 447 WHP with n2o.

New motor installed June 28, 2003 JDM Subaru Impreza STI RA long block.  I was told this is the strongest motor that Subaru makes.  Has forged pistons and rods, sodium filled valves, larger cams and an awesome head porting job.

AVCS hooked up finally in June 2004 a whole year later, think it's working no MIL.  Car painted looking great.

Rear View

This is what everyone sees the most!

My Garage

Had to make a garage some how with all the rain we have been getting. This set up works just ok, using a sheet of plywood for the floor.

Engine out

Pulling the motor out waiting for the replacement to come in the mail.

Piston

This was the worst damaged piston. The cylinder walls are still perfect.

Valves Bent

This is what happens when your timing belt breaks at 7,000 RPM's. Also pistons are damaged from valves. Even one of the camshafts cracked. Timing belt cover all busted from the cam gear breaking.

Fun

I am having fun doing this believe it or not. I always wanted too do this, just never really had too.

New Motor

This is how I got it

Numbers

Numbers on the window are from Capital Raceway October 3, 2003 when I ran a12.8 @ 104

Time Slip OLD

The time slip from Capital Raceway on there Friday night Test-and-Tune. This time slip is OLD, more then a year. I am expected to be into the 11's according to the WRX comunity.

Getting fixed

Whole car getting painted Velocity Red. Awsome color I saw on the new 2004 Mazda RX8. Had to have a lot of dent and smashes repaired.
