My Computer Specs
FATRAY
My computer is home built the way I want it.
I use it for all sort of things, mainly I like to play games on it.
Building a PC this way without a brand name saves considerable amount of
money, about $1000 I guess. $1000 you say "no way", well add the
parts up then see how much a Dell, or Gateway would cost. To get a
system like this you would have to call
Alienware or some other high end
system builder. I put this together around June 2003 when the
video card was five hundred dollars retail (I paid a lot less, will tell
you how soon). Most of the parts I bought on eBay. You
don't get tech support when you build it yourself. When I do need
help If I just type what is wrong in a search engine and Walla there is
the fix. Click the links to learn more.
Some links my not work because of constant updates on
the web. They worked when I listed them.
WrotensTV
Home built of course, used strictly for
TIVO
like use, only much more. Built from almost all old PC
parts from upgrading to the above PC.
Faster_WRX
I use this at work for fixing
jukeboxes,
tuning my car (more
on that later) and for what ever else I can think of. This
Averatec Notebook was a great value for what it came with. It's
a mini type laptop, very small and low profile. A comparable
Sony was more then $2,000 with the exact same features, but the
Averatec has less of a warrantee which is needed. First thing
broke was the DVD burner, it just stopped working all together.
Checking the unofficial AVERATEC support forums this seems to happen
to every 3250 series laptop. Under warrantee at the time but I
just upgraded to a faster and slot loading pioneer unit. Then
just recently May 2006, 6 months out of warrantee the hard drive craps
out totally. Loud clicking and clanking no boot drive found.
Upgraded to the same size 80gig drive, but 7,200 rpms VS the 4,200 rpm
stock drive. The speed increase to the laptop was HUGE. I
also upgraded to 1gig of ram up from 512mb. I tried to upgrade
the processor, but it didn't fit. It would seem AMD made a
processor just for AVERATEC that you can't buy an upgrade for.
Averatec Laptop Upgrades:
-
1 Gigabyte RAM up from 512MB
-
80 Gigabyte 7,200 rpm HD, up from a 4,200 rpm HD
-
DVD +/- burner 8x write 16x read
